SF Stories

The following stories are offered as a recognition that the great writers of the mid 20th century did a fantastic job of creating this genre. These stories are not intended to be presented as equal in any way to the classics of the past. They are just a series of stories I hope you will enjoy.

Alien Quest  (Open)

Did you get a copy of ALIEN QUEST?  I did.

I had been hunched over my personal computer for nearly two hours when the doorbell shattered my concentration.  The interruption was not welcome because I’d been wallowing in the depths of a very complex financial program; one I was certain would solve all the problems of my over used credit cards.  I stood up and stretched, trying to ease the pain in my shoulder muscles, then walked to the door, vaguely wondering how someone had been able to get through the downstairs security entrance.  Read on…

Don’t Overwater The Plants  (Open)

Bill, my ex fiancee, could hardly be accused of being malicious; stupid, maybe, but never malicious.  So it really was a bit unfair; what happened to him, I mean.  Read on…

Every Which Way? (Open)

It all started with the deafening explosion that threw Jason Millstone to the ground.  Then a wall collapsed on top of him and he could not get free; his leg was pinned by a large girder.

Rubble and debris was scattered everywhere.  Everywhere, that is, except for the spot 200 metres away where the laboratory had stood a just few seconds earlier.  In that area there was nothing   nothing at all.  It was absolutely clean and totally devoid of any man made item.  The large square of red sand, marking out the spot where it had stood, was completely flat and smooth, as if a road roller had just passed over it.  The whole building has just vanished, leaving the rest of the site complex in ruins.  Read on…

Aliens Have Rights Too  (Open)

Jeff Hains, bristling with anger, strode into the control room of the starship Endeavour.  Lionel Lafftoon, bearing a frown of deep indignation, followed a few steps behind, having difficulty keeping pace with the big man’s gait.

Hains blurted out his grievance as soon as he saw the Captain at the computer.  “What’s this about delaying the survey team?”  Read on…

Artificial Thought  (Open)

In a bomb proof bunker, deep beneath the Rocky Mountains, the Continuous Online Universal Nuclear Terminator (known by its acronym, “COUNT”) was in its highest state of electronic alertness.  Read on…

Imperfect Seal  (Open)

The crushing impact on the hull of the ship caused Andy and Glinnis to duck their heads.  They stayed low for a several seconds, looking at each other across the control room.  Then the high pitched whine of escaping air galvanised them into action; they both dived headlong for the emergency locker.  Read on…

The Hunt  (Open)

I woke up suddenly; the panic of suffocation racing though my veins.  It felt like a couple of hundred kilos of lead was pressing down on my whole body, for I could hardly move my arms and legs.  Then I came to my senses and cursed the Captain for having the ship’s gravity turned up so high.  I knew I’d get used to it later in the day, but it was definitely an unwelcome burden so early in the morning.  Read on…

The Tunnel  (Open)

It was rather uncomfortable lying on the floor at the end of tunnel X13. The damp cold seemed to seep right through the blanket to chill their bones, but it was one of the few places in the crowded community where young couples could be alone for a while. The only trouble was that after today, they would never see this tunnel again. Read on…
